While pursuing the second line of inquiry –‘how we use our senses to connect to the world’ under the unit ‘senses’, the students enhanced their thinking and research skills through a detailed discussion on the importance and ways of taking care of eyes. On the basis of their weekend prep, students discussed the ways in which they can take care of their eyes. Students discussed about the various eye diseases like near and far sightedness that are caused due to weakening of the eyes. In groups, students discussed various ways in which they use eyes for daily activities and how the eyes help us to connect to the world around us. They later used a ‘placemat graphic organiser’ to collate the important points of discussion. Students were also shown a video to further enhance their understanding and they wrote the reflection of the same in their journals. They also conducted an interesting experiment wherein they observed the pupil response to bright light. In integration with their ongoing unit of Sense organs, students learnt what sense organs are called in French. In their Hindi classes students were shown videos related to sense organs. They also drew images of the sense organs and related them to their names in Hindi. Students worked on creating posters related to sense organs in Microsoft Word. They also learnt about various tools eg: wordart,to make titles prominent and attractive in a document. In their English classes a prior knowledge assessment on punctuation was done conducted through a group activity wherein students wrote their understanding of the various punctuation marks. Students gained knowledge about comic strips through an interesting activity wherein they were given cut-outs of comic strips and later they created their own comic strip using correct punctuations, explaining their use in the strips. A formative assessment for reading was done during novel study. Students were introduced to various mental math strategies for addition like adding up by using patterns of tens and hundreds, breaking up the numbers and place value. They also worked on analyzing real life situations in the form of word problems using strategies like RUCKSACK and CUBES. Students strengthened their understanding by framing statements for word problems and using important information derived from the ‘CUBES’ strategy. Students revisited 'viramchinh' and wrote sentences using the same. They enjoyed reciting the poem 'mirchkamazaa' and enhanced their understanding related to sense organs through the poem. In Hindi ab-initio classes the students worked on building and completing a story. The same was used to hone their oral skills by reading the story aloud. They also put on their thinking caps to give an appropriate ending and a title for their story. They were also introduced to the concept of 'Miltejulteshabd' (Rhyming words) through small couplets and had fun creating couplets of their own . In their French classes students took a short quiz on numbers, months and days of the week and gave a formative assessment on the same. Students attempted a formative assessment on days of the week, numbers and months in Spanish. They gained knowledge about colours and were shown videos to strengthen their understanding of the same.
