Students were introduced to a new strategy ‘Flipped classroom’ for inquiring into the sense of taste during the 2nd unit of inquiry. A guest speaker session by the school counsellor apprised the students about ‘Good touch and bad touch’. Tuning into the sense of smell was done through a smelling activity where students inquired about how the nose smells. Then they learnt about the structure and function of nose through a video. Real-life connections of the sense of touch and smell were made through an interesting cartoon video. The students enjoyed Formative assessment of nose and tongue done through a quiz app ‘Plickers’. The Summative assessment of the unit required the students to create a poster for their favourite sense organ. In their Hindi class, students wrote a paragraph on 'aankhonkeedekhbhaal'. They shared their thoughts about 'sense organs' with their peers. In English classes students were shown the timeline of Hellen Keller and thereafter were asked to create timeline of the story ‘Eyes of the eagle’. To assess the prior knowledge of rhyming words, students were given a poem to fill up the blank spaces with the rhyming words. Thereafter students created a visual imagery of the poem in their notebooks. Summative assessment to assess comprehension and writing skills of students was also taken. To go deeper into the concept of ‘poetry’, facilitator shared some examples of couplets. Then as a group the students brainstormed and created 2-3 couplets. After watching the video about ‘how to write couplets’, they wrote few couplets on their own. Students were shown how to make a symmetrical human face with special reference to placing of ears, eyes, nose and lips. They were told about the Diwali Rangoli designs made with dot patterns of 5 x 5 and 7 x 7 called Kollam art. They were also shown a video for making a rangoli pattern with these dots and how they help make symmetrical patterns. Students attempted a Summative Assessment in their scrap books on addition, bar-graph and symmetry. They tuned in to multiplication through manipulatives and were shown how to display them as arrays and groups. As a practice activity, a multiplication grid was displayed in the class and each child was given a card. They were asked to pull out a multiplication problem out of the bag and show the problem in one of the ways - Array, skip counting, repeated addition, equal groups. The students then stuck it in the appropriate space in the grid. Students were introduced to the properties of multiplication. They were shown how to multiply numbers with 2 digits. They practiced multiplication of 2 digit numbers with two digit numbers in their journals individually. Students revisited Hindi grammar concepts like 'ling' (gender) and 'vachan' (number). They also wrote their reflection about the camp. In their French class, students learnt about different seasons and the basic vocabulary related to them. They also wrote the questions/answers based on seasons and made a wheel of seasons and months. In Music class, students learnt and played xylophone. In ICT, students learnt creating and drawing illustrations in Freshpaint related to their camp experience. In Art, Students observed different types of Landscapes. They also inquired about the elements of nature. When life is perfect, there are overwhelming smiles. This is what happened at Sariska, students screamed, yelled, laughed, played and danced together. The days were perfect at our camp site. The resort is in Alwar surrounded by Aravalli hills, which is the oldest mountain range of India. Away from the pressure of home and school, two days were comprised of fun filled activities. Activities included rock climbing, obstacle race, shooting, knot making, hiking, rafting, cooking maggi on the hill top, tent pitching. On the eve of children’s day there was a party organised for the children which involved many competitions. The next day, students went for safari where they saw different animals and enjoyed thoroughly. What a wonderful experience it was to see the animals wandering about freely in the forest!
